Intentional Dreaming

Updated: Feb 12, 2022

I was reading an old post today (Be my teddy bear), and realised I mentioned something with which you might not be familiar. That's because I made it up!

What's intentional dreaming, and how do you do it? And, hec, why?

Well, when you go to bed, do you notice what's on your mind? Often, I'll fall asleep saying my prayers. I think about all the things for which I'm thankful, and nod right off!

But a lot of people will put their head on the pillow, and that head will be heavy with all the thoughts, to-do lists, worries, frustrations .... of that person's life. Their neck will be tense, their shoulders contracted up. Even if they manage to get to sleep by some miracle, they'll wake up through the night. Sound like someone you know?

How do you get a good night's sleep like that?

I suppose, it all boils down to what kind of life you want to live. Do you want to be relaxed and happy? Would you like to live a life of comfort and ease? That requires a decision from you, to create the changes needed for you to attain that kind of life.

So, can you think of one action that you can take right now, that will help you to relax more when your head makes contact with your pillow?

Here are a few ideas that some people might offer ...

  • Write your to-do list down

  • List the people who can help you with getting your list completed

  • Ask those people to help

  • Let others know when things need to be done by, and why

  • List what's in it for those helpers

  • List what feelings you'll get when things are done

Gosh, that feels like a long list of lists! But what if you just wrote down your to-do list? Would that be enough for today? Just leave the helper list, for tomorrow. It's not like it all has to be done today, is it?

Let's get back to one action that you feel comfortable taking, just so you can relax more when you go to bed. I mentioned earlier, that I fall asleep saying my prayers. That's possibly because my prayers are really a list of "thankfuls", and that is twofold. First, lists are incredibly boring! I hate listening to lists! Second, feeling thankful brings me peace.

I'm thankful for today. For forgiveness, faithfulness, family and friendship. For my home, security, safety, healthfulness and happiness. When I pray for what I want, I word it as though I already have it.

So, that's another way to relax at sleep- time. You don't have to be religious, or have faith in a god. Just realise that you have life, and potential.

Potential is such a powerful thing!

But there is another thing that you can try. When you place your head on your pillow, and gently close your eyes, breathe deeply and think of something you love or would like to do. Have the intention of dreaming about that.

Let's say that in the days leading up to Christmas, I start to feel lonely and I wish my parents were still alive. I could go to bed and hold the intention of dreaming about Christmas with them.

I might dream about making the old fashioned boiled Christmas pudding and enjoying a feast with them in the old house where I grew up.

Or, I might find myself as a small child in the back of the car on the way to Malabula for Christmas holidays.

My dream could even take me to Heaven, to the biggest and happiest party of all eternity.

Intentional dreaming frees the mind from all the cares and woes of life, so you're liberated from stress to enjoy a happy sleep.

You choose what you dream about, and then allow your subconscious to take over and grant you all your wishes.

You find the answers to your questions, and the solutions to your quandaries.

Why not give it a try? Please drop me a line and let me know how you go. I'd love to hear from you!

If you like the way I write, you will definitely enjoy my books, meditations, and meditation school. Maybe, a tarot and oracle card reading is more your thing; it's very personal (just you and me, over WhatsApp, followed up by your own summary email).
